Study Away Summer II 2021

Study Away Trip to Portland, Bar Harbor, Maine

Dates: July 21, 2021 - August 1, 2021

GBC Course to Receive 3 Credits: MGT 30000 - Experiential Learning in Management: Workplace Culture

Led by: Professor Nathaniel Measley. Professor Measley has traveled extensively both internationally and domestically. He has led students to destinations around the world from California to Argentina and Australia. He has also lived in Europe, Argentina, and Australia for extended periods. Outside of the classroom, Professor Measley consults on workplace culture through his own firm at

Brief Description: This trip will focus on exploring all factors that affect workplace culture and how entrepreneurs can identify and activate a business model reflective of a designed culture. Students will stay 8 nights in an upscale hostel in the Old Port area of Portland, Maine. They will then travel to Bar Harbor for a 3-night stay in cottages by the sea.  While at Bar Harbor, students will participate in signature excursions focused on culture and team workshops in Acadia National Park. During this study away program, students will explore business incubators, attend networking events, and visit tech start-ups. Students will also have the chance to dine at amazing start-up restaurants and, while in Bar Harbor, hike in Acadia National Park.

Breakdown of the Teaching vs. Experiential Portions: This program is designed to be 50% in classroom/online and in-person instruction, and 50% excursions on-site with businesses, entrepreneurs, and participating in workshops.

· One Zoom class meeting the week of June 21, 2021 ~ 3.0 hours 

· One Zoom class meeting the week of July 12, 2021 ~ 3.0 hours 

· Course culminates with our trip July 21 - August 1, 2021.

Approximate Cost for Students:

$2,595 Estimated Trip Cost ($1,745 billable to GBC for housing, meals and local transportation)* 

+ $1,170 Course Tuition (which is the three-credit course minus GBC's Affordability Assurance Award)**

Applications after the April 3 deadline will incur a $100 late fee and any $500 commitment deposits made after April 15 will incur a $50 late commitment fee.
