Emergency Alerts

Partnered with Rave Mobile Safety, GBC provides a messaging system for emergency notifications and updates through text messaging and email.

All students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled for emergency notifications with their GBC Email addresses and mobile phone numbers on record. Users may add emails and mobile phone numbers or opt out of text messages using the Digital Communications Preferences form. The system allows for three email addresses and three mobile phone numbers. Standard text messaging fees may apply and are the user's responsibility.

gbcALERT sends notifications instantly and simultaneously about:

  • Emergency conditions on or around campus
  • Weather cancellations and delays

Users, please note:

  • You can opt out of text messaging at any time.
  • Service providers may apply standard text messaging fees, which are the user's responsibility.
  • Emergency and weather messages are automatic.
  • No advertising messages will be sent using this system.
  • Your information is not shared with nor sold to third parties.

Non-Emergency News Alerts

You can also choose to receive non-emergency news alerts from various College offices. These alerts are only sent if you opt-in to receive them.

  1. Office of Information Technology Alerts about technology service maintenance periods, downtimes, upgrades, security notices, etc.
  2. News Alerts about campus events, activities, and campus store promotions.
  3. Reminder Alerts about important dates and deadlines (Advisement, Financial Aid, Business Office, etc.)

Inclement Weather and Emergency Information

Goldey-Beacom College encourages its students, faculty, and staff to use discretion in determining safe travel conditions in the absence of official college closings or cancellations.

In the event of inclement weather or emergency, please do one of the following:
  1. Check for a text message and/or email message from the gbcALERT Notification System.
  2. Visit the College's website, www.gbc.edu. Closing information is immediately posted on the top of the homepage.
  3. Call the College's main number, (302) 998-8814, after 6 a.m. for an announcement of closing.
  4. Listen to one of the radio stations listed below after 5:30 a.m. for an announcement of closing. The announcement will stipulate whether it is just day classes, day and evening classes, or both. If the announcement does not specifically state that the College is closed for evening classes, listen again after 3 p.m. If the College is not announced as closed for the evening, faculty and appropriate staff should report for duty.

When the College determines it is necessary to have a delayed opening due to inclement weather, class schedules will begin at that new time for that day.

    • For example, when a two-hour delay occurs, and the College opens at 10 am, classes scheduled to start at 9:30 am will start at 10 am and end at the regular scheduled time for that class. If the class is normally from 9:30 am to 10:45 am, then the class would meet from 10 am to 10:45 am.
