Description

Nonprofits have a unique place in the fabric of modern-day enterprise, in that they serve social missions but must also make intelligent business decisions. The uniqueness comes in the conundrum of making these decisions while maintaining a triple-bottom line. Tax-exempt organizations have historically played a key role in the production, distribution, and elimination of many products that are essential for our society. Sectors like the arts, health care, and education are among those that are dependent on nonprofits. Because of the focus on “doing good”, a keen eye must be paid to the efficient management and investment of resources. A majority of these entities do not derive their income from pure market mechanisms and they will not make goods and services to all members of society.
